Faux fur: it's in!

Sooo, faux fur is super in this season, but I still have my misgivings. And living in southern California, where it's swelteringly hot midway in October, it's definitely even more of a fashion dilemma. It's one thing to accidentally look like an old Asian grandma or mafia don's wife, neither of which are good looks, but it's quite another to look like the aforementioned suffering from heat stroke. Hmmmmmm.

Unfortunately I did not consider weather when I impulsively purchased the Rachel Zoe for QVC faux fur vest. However! Rivers of sweat be damned because I love this vest!! It's unbelievably soft and realistic. At first I thought the construction was a little boxy but I think the looser fit allows for more creativity in what you put underneath it. I must admit, the more I wear it, the more I love it. I may just have to risk the stares (and heat stroke)!

iPhone update!

Surreptitiously taken at a gap:

I super love this blazer from there and it's so cheap!

Also note my attempt to channel this hairdo from Alex & Eli s/s '10 show:

It's very nice for napping in hot weather as I discovered today :)

HOW CREATIVE

Where as my craft days tend to produce bulky braided bracelets, some of my friends are a tad more skilled. Check out this delicate and BEAUTIFUL headband, handcrafted by Steph:

AMAZING! I've already commissioned a hair clip. :)

Hello MARC...;]

So I've been pining away for these Marc by Marc Jacobs Ankle Boots ever since I lost a pair of black ones in a bidding war on EBay a couple months back. They are from a couple seasons ago so despite my desperate searching, I could only find them in tan. :( But they are still pretty fabulous....and now they are MINE. I <3 Marc.

playing dress-up

Tonight was the first banquet I attended, marking the end (near-end) of pharm school Year I! I went back and forth about what I was going to wear for weeks and didn't even make my decision until just 2 hours before. I actually picked something I wasn't even greatly considering!

I really loved how the outfit came together, and it seemed to be a consensus-hit.

The only "new" item was actually my necklace.

dress - Catherine Malandrino
necklace - J.Crew
purse - Fendi
heels - Calvin Klein

Here are some other angles so you can see my shoes and the necklace better.

Michelle is my size twin, so she borrowed some dresses for banquet. This blue one is one of my faves, and it's actually Catherine Malandrino, as well.

um, pictures are positioned funny, but oh well.

Helloooooo SUMMER!

Summer is RIGHT around the corner and this past week's hellishly hot weather has been an unpleasant reminder that a So Cal summer is NOT all about eating popsicles, wearing shorts and going to the beach, it's also about 100+ degree weather, sweat stains and lying prostrate in bed with heat stroke (or possibly just laziness, but in this heat....whose to say! ;). But never-the-less all this sunniness makes me want to play hooky and go on a vacation! So what are we waiting for?? On-y va!

:)

Jess hit the big 2-4 on 4/05! To celebrate the end of an age bracket (it's the last year she can check that 18-24 box on surveys!!), we went to the Getty Villa.
Overlooking Malibu, it's the Getty's architectural museum, and it's pretty amazing...even the view from the balcony made you feel like you had been transported to a different era.

We got Jess jewelry from Zoe Chicco....

Starfish earrings (sans diamond)....Small anchor tear necklace:

As for the fashion of that day...
Loved Jess and Polly's outfits, ESPECIALLY Polly's boots, from some store in SD:
Steph looked cute as usual, I like the idea of tying a scarf at the back to make it into a shrug...

I didn't get a chance to write down where everything is from, sorry!

Shirt: H&M, Vest: Urban, Shorts: Jovovich-Hawk, Tights: Bloch, Booties: Aldo
*note: I'm not posting the back view of my outfit b/c you could clearly see I had a wedgie...XP

on Haight

Hmmm it's been a while since I posted anything, mainly because I've re-instated a strict budget for myself and have been trying to avoid looking at blogs, shopping online etc in order to stick to it. But yah, nevermind that. :)

So I went up to SF 2 weekends ago as you all know, and it was very good times, just reminded me of how much I love the city! I want to move there....like right now! Anyways, here is a vair cute outfit that Kathrine wore when we went to Haight....

I didn't get a chance to write down what exactly she was wearing, but good thing I grill my friends about where their clothes are from, heh. Jacket: J.Crew, shirt & tights: Urban, Boots: Steve Madden, Hoodie, shorts, hat: ??

Found my perfect hooded (faux) leather jacket while I was there, and also found that I cannot afford to spend $179 on a fake leather jacket. :( (NOOOOOoOOOOOooo why can't I be rich??)
Joyrich Leather Jacket ::loves:: the hood can be stowed away!

So...I bought a poor substitution from Arden B....it was cheap tho and still kinda cute...
Jacket: ArdenB, Shirt: Umm, some shop @ fashion island, Skirt: Target, Socks: Urban, Boots: Chinese Laundry, Bracelet: gift from Stephie (thanks steph!)

That's it! Quick eh? :)

HOW FREAKING CLEVER...

Also, portable purse hooks by Luxe Link. Ingenious or ridiculous?

Helloo, the two aren't mutually exclusive, and I think it is ridiculously ingenious.

Intricate and Light

Found this gorgeous shirt scrunched in a ball in the corner of J & H's bed and immediately ordered Jess to put it on. Intricate embroidery on chiffon over gold satin...it's so pretty and light, it's what I imagine a particularly fashionable fairy princess would wear.

Shirt: kimchi & blue
